We study the equilibrium and non equilibrium Statistical Mechanics of Phase transitions and critical phenomena. Particular topics of current interest include metastability and spinodal points in first order phase transitions, short time dynamics close to critical points and first order transitions and slow dynamics in frustrated systems (e.g., glassy).

Estudiamos la Mecánica Estadística de equilibrio y no equilibrio en transiciones de fase y fenómenos críticos. En particular, estamos  interesados en el presente en el estudio de la metaestabilidad y puntos espinodales en transiciones de primer orden, dinámica de tiempos cortos en las cercanías de puntos críticos y espinodales y la dinámica lenta en sistemas frustrados (ej., vítreos).

 

 

                                                                                          

 

        

 

      

Tesis Ferrero 

 

This video shows a nucleation event in the two dimensional q-state Potts model with  q  = 24, using the cotinuous time Monte Carlo method.. The system has been driven into a disordered metastable state through a slow cooling from high temperature down to a temperature slightly below the (first order) transition one. The figure below shows the evolution of the energy (video made by E. E. Ferrero; See article).
